Emergent Awarded Direct-to-Phase II SBIR by the SDA – Everest
Ascent's Networking and Overhead Persistent Infrared Payload Simulation provide MS&A Capabilities for Model-Based Systems Engineering of the NDSA Transport and Tracking Layers
Emergent Awarded Direct-to-Phase II SBIR by Space Development Agency for Model Based Systems Engineering of the Constellations
Laurel, MD / Austin, TX, December 1, 2022 – Emergent Space Technologies, Inc. (Emergent) was awarded a Direct-to-Phase II SBIR contract by the Space Development Agency (SDA) to develop enhanced digital engineering tools for modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) of the National Defense Space Architecture (NDSA). Through the EValuation and Engineering of Resilient Space Technology (EVEREST) contract, Emergent will demonstrate the connection of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools with scalable MS&A tools used for Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and develop a high-fidelity model of the Transport and Tracking Layers within the NDSA.
EVEREST will leverage Emergent’s MS&A tool, Ascent, to model the full NDSA, from spacecraft flight software to warfighter assessments based on data from the constellation. The goal of the research is to enable mission designers and decision makers to rapidly evaluate concepts and assess system capabilities using an automated mission evaluation toolset. The Everest prototype has the potential to accelerate planning for future acquisitions, validation of requirements, mission development, and warfighter assessments for the SDA. “The SDA has revolutionized the acquisition cycle for space systems. Their current challenge will be to maintain that agility as complexity and scale increases. In partnership with SDA, Emergent intends to expand Everest to provide digital engineering capabilities to maintain SDA’s aggressive timelines for deploying future tranches and delivering new capabilities to warfighters.” according to Austin Probe, Emergent’s Chief Technology Officer.
