2005 Contractor Excellence Award Received by Dr. David Gaylor

Dr. David Gaylor, VP of Emergent's Aerospace Systems Division was awarded the Goddard Mission Engineering and Systems Analysis (MESA) Division Contractor Excellence Award in April of 2005.

MESA Contractor Excellence Award Criteria

In order to receive this award, a contractor must be nominated by a NASA/GSFC civil servant. The criteria for the Contractor Excellence award stipulates that, "The recipients should exemplify commitment to excellence, creativity, dedication, and personal integrity in providing outstanding support to Goddard's mission." This honor is awarded to only one contractor per year for the entire Code 590 division.

Dr. David Gaylor's Role in the Formation Flying Test Bed

Dr. Gaylor has been an instrumental part of the Formation Flying Test Bed (FFTB) at NASA/GSFC for the past year and a half. He was nominated for this award by Mr. Rich Burns, FFTB Lead Engineer for NASA/GSFC. In his nomination Rich stated that, “Through personal dedication and a high level of technical expertise, Dave assembled, organized, and executed the tools within the FFTB such that they work and communicate together as a seamless real-time, hardware-in-the-loop simulation…no small feat!” Dave also worked to develop, write, and test code for use within the FFTB. “Dave’s technical expertise in both software engineering and spacecraft navigation and control form a truly unique capability.” This capability of Dave’s has made him invaluable not only to the FFTB but to the entire Emergent team. Rich also stated, “Dave Gaylor’s innovation, dedication, and technical excellence have led to the fulfillment of the most significant FFTB milestone to date, closed loop formation control with GPS in the loop.”
