Dr. George Davis Speaks at Dr. Wallace T. Fowler Symposium

Distinguished University of Texas Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics Professor and Director of the Texas Space Grant Consortium, Dr. Wallace T. Fowler, was honored on January 26, 2017 by his peers and friends, recognizing his retirement after 50 years of service to the university.  Emergent president, Dr. George Davis, one of Dr. Fowler’s former students, had the privilege of serving as Master of Ceremonies for this event as well as one of the speakers. Other notable symposium speakers included alumni such as Paul Lockhart, former NASA astronaut; Dr. Alan Stern, Principal Investigator of NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto; Dr. David Korsmeyer, Director of Engineering at NASA Ames Research Center; Dr. Carrie Olsen, ISS Payload Operations Director at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center; and Robert Mahoney, author and former NASA Johnson Space Center space flight instructor. All spoke about how Dr. Fowler shaped their success. “Wally Fowler is one of the great engineering educators of our time. He has had an enormous impact on the aerospace industry by educating and training some of the best engineers and managers at NASA centers, prime contractors and even at Small Businesses such as Emergent. As a teacher and a mentor, he touched the lives of thousands of students over his 50-year career, including mine, and I feel privileged to call him friend”, said Dr. Davis.  From all the Texas Exes at Emergent, we thank Dr. Fowler for his dedication to education and wish him all the best!
