Emergent’s provides end-to-end
life cycle support in the areas of onboard systems research and
development for innovative autonomous vehicle programs. We provided
development and integration support for onboard software and hardware
system that facilitate navigation, communication, payload management,
and
overall vehicle health and safety functions.
Flight Testing SPHERES
An Emergent employee recently flew onboard NASA's KC-135
(aka "Vomit Comet") to support flight testing of the SPHERES satellites
in preparation for their future launch to the International Space
Station.
OASIS - Ocean Atmosphere Sensor Integration System
Emergent is
currently conducting onboard systems design, development,
integration, and testing for commercial platforms that will enable
researchers to obtain ocean and atmospheric measurements at a cost
savings compared to alternatives means of data collection such as
research vessels, moored buoys, and expendable drifter arrays. Data
collected will aid NASA and NOAA in satellite calibration and
validation as well as ocean atmosphere boundary layer modeling.
SPHERES - Synchronized Position Hold Engage and
Reorient Experimental Satellites
Emergent has worked
with NASA and MIT to support the development, integration, and test of
advanced guidance, navigation, and control algorithms onboard the
SPHERES satellites as part of research effort to study the feasibility
of decentralized control architectures for satellite formations.
These unique autonomous vehicles provide engineers with a
valuable testbed to evaluate new onboard control system
techniques on the ground, in zero-g, and on-orbit, prior to being
deployed in operational missions.
